There's a photo in a box somewhere, of about 20 Lamborghini Countaches with their doors swung up in salute at Italian Happening. It's one of many incredible images, from a long row of racing Ferrari Daytonas, 250 SWB Tour de France, 250 LM and other famous Ferraris, to a Formula One Alfa and show cars loaned from Ghia or GM Design (the Ghia Barchetta, Corvette Mako Shark many others). One cool moment was when the late Chuck Jordan, then VP of GM Design, took show participants for rides in some of the latest one-off creations. The Happening faded away after 2006 when David & Andrea Hammond decided 26 years of doing this was enough and needed a break. Break time is up! Mark July 27 on your calendar. The Inn at St. John's in Plymouth will be the new site, we'll have 200-250 cars and bikes. Cauley Ferrari will again be offering their support, we'll be looking for other sponsors, and there's an option for dinner for 80 Saturday night after the show. Get the car polish, blanket, and picnic basket ready, the Happening is back! We'll need everything from a website person to awards and day-of-event personnel. Without volunteers, there's no event. It's that simple. |

An Alfa Romeo at Autorama |
Seen everything? How about a 1969 GTV in a hot rod show? Richard Davisson's Alfa Romeo was accepted to the 2013 Autorama in Detroit, March 8-10 at Cobo Hall. No, it does not have Hillborn injection and huge drag slicks. It's nicely detailed Alfa Romeo GTV that someone must have thought was a custom car, and to Richard's surprise was accepted. Says a lot about the castings and construction details of 1960s Alfas, doesn’t it? Adult tickets are $18. children 6-12 years, $5. According to the Autorama website, discount tickets are available at any O'Reilly's Auto Parts for $16. Are you paying attention, Joe Benson? Why not the SSZ, that fun half-breed Sprint Speciale with 600 horsepower?

AlfaCaliforna 2013 in Sonoma Valley |
The details are finally set. Look for a registration form in the December issue of Alfa Owner. Events are expected to sell out quickly, as there are indications that over 1,000 Alfisti will attend. The main hotel is filling in advance of registration! That's a red flag that remaining rooms will go quickly. The organizers plan to add more hotels as needed, but the price negotiation was with the main hotel and that's the best place to be. Be aware that this is a major tourist area, hotels will fill without a convention, and they know it. The other thing to keep in mind is that we'll be just north of San Francisco, not an area known for bargain-priced anything. Although the local Alfa groups did their best, the AROC Board requested bringing the autocross down from $60 to $50, despite any spec of land renting for top dollar. The time trials and autocross will be at Infineon (formerly known as Sears Point). Classic Alfas (pre-1950) will be at the convention in good numbers. |

Any member may nominate any member. Pretty simple, huh? Contact any board member to nominate. Toss one in for yourself. We'll conduct a thorough momentary exam to be certain you're breathing, and that qualifies you as a candidate. Election is another matter. It really helps if you're active in the club and will come to meetings. |
